Happy October! A month of pumpkins and candles, hot chocolate and pies, sweaters and boots. A perfect month for self-care and kindness.
There are many wonderful quotes about October, here are few of my favourites.
I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.
L. M. Montgomery
October is the opal month of the year. It is the month of glory, of ripeness. It is the picture-month.

My favorite color is October.

October is crisp days and cool nights, a time to curl up around the dancing flames and sink into a good book.

October is a symphony of permanence and change

books. i’ve many, my bookshelves are overflowing! i read a lot, and i really like to feel the weight of the book in my hands. most of the time i order the hardcopy, or the real book as i like to say. i’ve my kindle that i use mostly when travelling, and now in COVID times i’m using it more, i’m not comfortable in getting books by mail.
i don’t keep all the books i’ve read, only the ones that really touched me and i’m sure i’ll go back to them, so i donate most of my books during the spring, but this year the donation centres around here have stopped receiving books donations. i’ve sorted out the books i want to keep and made this pile for donation. these books are waiting for new hands to hold them.
And you? do you prefer hardcopy or electronic version? do you keep all your books?

The sound of raindrops and the smell of earth mixing with the fragrance of coffee! Moments of joy this morning!

Hello my friends, hope you are doing well. This time of quarantine is making me reflect on many things. I’ve been up and down in relation to my feelings. Some days of stress, others of calm, others of nothing only going with the flow. I know for sure, is that I’m settling into the new routine of working from home. Sharing the space with my husband, having lots of coffee/tea and popcorn in the afternoons have brightened my day and I’m being more productive than we all day in the office.

The weather is getting more spring-like these days and a run at the closest park is always a moment of joy. Now is the season of tulips, and they are everywhere. I never get tired of taking photos of them.Â

We planted this cherry tree in our backyard a few years back. She was 2 feet tall, a say a baby tree. Now she’s maybe 8 feet tall and she is blooming!
I say ‘she’ because to me all the trees are female. They are fertile, they give flowers and fruits, they are home for birds and other animals. They are always ready to give security and love. Oh! if you don’t know yet, I’m a tree hugger too!
Flowers always make people better, happier, and more helpful; they are sunshine, food, and medicine to the soul.

Reading between the lines, seeing behind the expressions, listening to my intuition! As I get older I’m learning to see the truth, that most of the time is hidden by smiles, nice words, misplaced acts.

If baking is any labor at all, it’s a labor of love.
A love that gets passed from generation to generation.

I’ve been baking a lot these days, so much that my older son asked me to stop baking or we will be too fat to go outside when the stay home ends 🙂
I enjoy baking and trying new recipes, love the smell in the kitchen when I’m baking. My mom used to bake a cake every Saturday afternoon when I was a kid. I remember that my brother had already moved out, but on Saturdays evening he would stop by to have a piece of cake. I guess I got the baking gene from her!
Bread and pizza dough are my weakness in the kitchen, I can’t bake them. I’ve tried many recipes but they don’t work. I’d love to have fresh bread from the oven these days and I tried one recipe I got online this week, but the dough didn’t rise! I want something simple, nothing fancy, only a piece of bread to spread some butter on it and enjoy with a cup of coffee. Please, share with me if have a simple one.

I got the recipe for this delicious chocolate cherry cake from IG @silviacollocaofficial, it’s super easy to make, and interesting that instead of butter and milk we use olive oil and yogurt!
It’s all about a balancing act between time, temperature and ingredients:
That’s the art of baking.
