fall blooms
fall pretty leaves
fall is an open path
fall is all about letting go
fall down

Elizabeth, I love how “fall” moves from colorful leaves to letting go, with “fall down” giving the ending a surprising little tumble!

Elizabeth, that last line completely changes how I read the whole poem, “fall down” flips everything from the gentle season imagery into something much more vulnerable. I love how “fall” quietly shifts from noun to verb right at the end, it’s such a smart use of the word’s double meaning. “Letting go” suddenly feels less peaceful and more like actually falling. Such a clever, well-crafted piece.

You got it! Exactly what I meant when writing it. Letting go isn’t easy, and can hurt us. Thanks for the lovely comment!

That’s the brilliance of your poem, Elizabeth, how ‘fall’ holds both meanings at once. The beauty and the breaking. It’s why poetry can say things prose never can. Thank you for trusting us with that vulnerability. 💚
