So I heard She is old, not worth our time The storm has broken some of her branches So I heard She still has bright leaves Her shade is kind So I heard Birds and squirrels make their home in there The kids have their swing on her branches So I heard The electrical cables will be damage She can’t hold another storm So I heard She is hollow No more flowers and fruits So I decided My aged and deformed hands Will strongly ground to the Earth I’ll show my power And my will I’ll survive the next storm
Recently, we had a heavy storm with tornados touching down near by. Many trees branches broken, and full trees came down destroying houses, cutting electrical cables …, lots of damage. A few days later the city workers came by and cut many trees, the damaged ones and also some healthy ones. This made me so upset. Now we see the left over from their trunks, some indeed were hollow inside, but others had a strong core. I don’t know much about trees’ health, but it should have a way to check if the tree is doing well or not before cut them off.

So sad to see trees getting cut. Feel so upset but what can we do. A wonderful poem 🤗🤗🤗

Thanks, Kamal! I think about all the birds and little animals that lost their homes. But we can’t do anything.

Trees are living things, and some actions against them are totally senseless. We have few trees around us, spaces are open and flat farmland. The soil is rich and fertile, but we miss the woods where we used to take Maggie every day. Sadly they are now over 30 miles away.

Senseless for sure, but people go for the fast and easy way that it’s get rid of the trees instead of checking and be sure if it is really necessary and if there is another way around.

This is so sad, Elizabeth. Earlier this year we had a 60+ year old oak tree taken down on the side of my house. It is slowly showing its age. A very old and rotten branch had fallen down on my neighbor’s car. One tiny little dent, but we could not afford to let more branches fall, so the decision was made to cut it down. The inside of the trunk was not hollow, but we could not take a chance on future damage that could be costly. I still grieve the tree, though.

The trees here are old too, some should be more than 100 years old, but they still look heathy and thriving. Sometimes a decision needs to be make, it’s not nice to have the car/house damaged either.

A very empowering message in your poem Elizabeth. Indeed there should be a proper survey before chopping off the trees. Thanks for joining in with this beautiful poem

Thanks, Sadje! I don’t believe they did any survey here, only looked it the tree was too close to the electrical cables and chop chop.

I have seen that here too. But they cut only the branches in the way of electrical wires
