Breathe

Two photo prompts this week: the left image for WDYS and the right one for Tanka Tuesday. I decided to combine both prompts together in a text and a chōka poem.

Once a home, now just a house. The noise from the past clashes with the silence of the present. The memories are held in a trunk waiting for the moment to erupt, looking for freedom.
Winter lies in each corner, the cold and dark creeping into my skin.
She knew I was coming and left me the rose and a cup of water to bring me back to the present moment.

the silence is loud
winter lies in each corner
the memories wait
held in a trunk for so long
they scream for freedom
she knew I was coming back
the rose and water
housekeeping is imminent
breath in, breath out, be present

W3 – transformation

a visitor in my garden
wings of transformation
hidden beneath the mystery
a message from faraway
or close by
its beauty is softness
letting go of the weight
opening up to the possibilities
immersed in lavender scent
reminds me of calm
no hurry
the time will arrive
you will find the truth

My garden is blooming with flowers and butterflies, from time to time a dragonfly shows up, and I like to believe it has a message for me.

“The Dragonfly has been a symbol of happiness, new beginnings and change for many centuries.  The Dragonfly means hope, change, and love.” You can find more about it here.

W3 prompt this week is “Write about the first wild creature that you see which inspires you on the day you write your poem.”

Dawn

Tanka Tuesday prompt is the above photo referring to the Phoenix mythology.

Consumed by the flames
The silent cry of the soul
The mistakes lay on each feather
Now burning without care
From the ashes
Washed from the sins
Little by little
The sun is rising
A display of orange and energy
Bringing life to a start
consumed by the flames
the silent cry of the soul
a breath of the dawn

WDYS – Chaos

In the middle of the chaos
Two possibilities arise
Look up to the light
See the tiny expression of goodness
A hand of hope
Or
Dive into the darkness
A hole in the wall of despair
Inviting you to hide
To go deep down
Into your sorrows
At the end
It’s up to you, your mindset
To choose the path to be taken

W3 – Meditation

a garden close by home
Memories from my childhood
Exit through each pore in my skin
Destiny masks the truth
In search of the path
Temptation or reality
Action or dream
Time is the culprit
Irrational sense of power
Overpassing what matters
Now and here

W3 prompt this week has been chosen by Punam:

  • Write an acrostic poem on any one of the following words:
    1. Discipline;
    2. Enthusiasm;
    3. Meditation;
    4. Tumult;
    5. Trouble.

Since I’m working on my Meditation skills I had to pick Meditation as the word for the poem.

Now and here, or better, as I like to say HERE and NOW! It’s so difficult to keep our mind in the present, to observe and to feel the moment. The past always shows up, memories popping up and taking us back to the moments and situations that can’t be changed at this exact moment. I have come a long way, I’m much better now focusing on the present, but it’s a rough path, nothing smooth as the path on the photo above. I call this path a secret path, it’s in a park almost in front of my home, and only a few people walk on it. So, it’s my secret spot to do a quick walking meditation.

W3 – Dandelions

dandelions
yellow beauties
lawn tiny wishes
shattering spells of joy
smiles

dandelions
unwanted weeds
lawn spreading annoyance
shattering spells of distress
angry

First time writing an Elfchen poem (see the instructions below). This form was suggested by Sadje. She asked us to write one poem and another one opposing the first one.

Dandelions are my favourite wildflower, so the first poem is really what I meant about them. However, I know some people that really hate them.

An elevenie (German: elfchen) is a short poem with a given pattern. It contains eleven words which are arranged in a specified order over five rows. Each row has a requirement that can vary.

Skyline

Solitude embraces me like a shawl in a chilly evening
Kindness towards myself
Year-long, a search for abundance of my being
Limited by the conscience, where the ocean meets the sky
Inflicting despair, a tiny line between sanity and madness
Never again
Exaltation of the senses

W3 – Roses

dried red rose

Roses. My fave flowers always. I enjoy each phase of them, since the tiny blossoms to the later stage when the petals start to fall off. I dry the ones that are really special to me. I’ve been doing it for many years. This one above is a Valentine’s Day gift from around 10 years ago. It has dried beautifully, I realized that the red and yellow ones are perfect for the drying process.

This week W3 prompt is about our favourite flower and spring. I opted for a butterfly cinquain to express my feelings for the roses. Nothing as flowers and butterflies to represent spring.

roses
the young blossoms
mature to perfection
the bright colours and soft perfume
senses
awakening with radiance
luxurious petals
breezy or dry
passion

Destiny

The Expected One
1860
painting by Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller (Museum: Bavarian State Painting Collections) wikidata.org
Wandering in the forest,
Immersed in a fairy tale
She doesn’t know
Her destiny is traced
In the hands of the unknown
He waits with flowers
A trap
The knife is hidden
He counts the seconds
The jump
A sharp blade
Ending the dreams
each tiny step counts
the soul is about to fly
a fairy tale ends

Joining Tanka Tuesday: Today’s prompt is the photo above, Ekphrastic poem:
